2. Data I Collect
FoldPaper is designed to work locally on your device. I do not operate servers, do not require user accounts, and do not collect personal data for my own purposes. The following data processing occurs:
2.1 Data Stored Locally on Your Device
All of the following stays on your device and is never transmitted to me or any third party:
- Wallpaper configurations, presets, and settings (via Android DataStore)
- Album data: image references, crop overrides, motion configurations
- Depth masks generated by on-device ML processing (stored as local PNG files)
- App preferences (theme, accent color, language, onboarding status)
- Purchase status (which in-app purchase tiers you own)
2.2 Crash Reports (Optional)
When the app crashes, a log file containing the stack trace, device model, Android version, and app version is saved locally. On next launch, you are asked whether to send this report. You may also enable automatic crash report submission. Reports are sent via HTTPS to a Google Forms endpoint and contain:
- Crash stack trace (technical error information)
- Device manufacturer, model, Android version, API level
- App version and build type
- Your optional message (if you choose to add one)
No personal identifiers (name, email, IP address) are intentionally collected. You can disable automatic sending at any time in the app settings.
2.3 Feedback & Bug Reports (User-Initiated)
If you choose to submit feedback or a bug report through the app, the following is sent to a Google Forms endpoint:
- Your message
- Report type (feature request or bug report)
- Device manufacturer, model, Android version, API level
- App version and build type
2.4 On-Device Image Processing
FoldPaper uses Google ML Kit Subject Segmentation to generate depth masks from your images. This processing runs entirely on your device. Images are not uploaded to any server for this feature.
3. Third-Party Services
FoldPaper integrates the following third-party services, each with their own privacy practices:
I do not use Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, or any third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
4. Advertising & Your Choices
The free version of FoldPaper displays ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers and use cookies or similar technologies to serve personalized ads.
You have the following choices regarding ads:
- Consent management: When you first use the app (in applicable regions), a consent dialog is shown. You may choose to accept or decline personalized advertising.
- Ad-free experience: You may purchase any of the in-app purchase tiers to permanently remove all ads.
- Device settings: You can reset your advertising identifier or opt out of ad personalization via your Android device settings.
5. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR Art. 6)
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): Crash report submission (optional), feedback submission (user-initiated), personalized advertising (via UMP consent dialog).
- Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)): Displaying non-personalized ads to support the free version of the app; basic device information in crash reports to diagnose and fix bugs.
- Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b)): Processing in-app purchases through Google Play Billing.
6. Data Retention
- Local data: Stored on your device until you clear app data or uninstall the app.
- Crash reports & feedback: Stored in Google Forms/Sheets indefinitely for debugging purposes. These contain no personal identifiers.
- Ad-related data: Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
7. Data Transfers
Crash reports and feedback are transmitted to Google Forms (Google LLC, USA). Google is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Ad-related data processing by Google AdMob may also involve transfers to the USA under the same framework.
8. Your Rights (GDPR)
Under the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to:
- Access (Art. 15) — request information about data I process about you
- Rectification (Art. 16) — request correction of inaccurate data
- Erasure (Art. 17) — request deletion of your data

9. Children's Privacy
FoldPaper is not directed at children under 16. I do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted data through a crash or feedback report, please contact me and I will delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
